I'm in. There's something so untrustable about an algorithm that has been feeding for a decade--like it has only gotten better at monetizing me, not at actually recommending what I would read. This is long overdue. Thank you for the clear path.

I only just started using Goodreads this year, but found it a bit underwhelming – so this has convinced me to give The Storygraph a try! (Also: there's a few times when I've logged a book I've loved, only to be confronted with a bunch of reviews about how it's terrible 😅)

Yay! Welcome to the dark side, we have good books, cool graphs and lots of love <3

This was great! I love the Storygraph because it gives you amazing stats about your reading habit, but I still use Goodreads due to its community aspect. I hope everyone kisses Goodreads goodbye soon.

The stats and graphs are just amazing!

Great read! I never felt comfortable with the fact that Goodreads was more or less owned by Amazon and I am glad to now be able to recommend a book site for readers outside of that ecosystem. Looking forward to future newsletters.

I love this post! I actually use both Goodreads *and* StoryGraph. StoryGraph is better in almost all aspects, especially its interface. I use it more for my own personal experience—I love all the detailed stats it gives you, the fact that you can mark books owned and DNF, filter your read or want to read shelves when searching for a book with things like genre, mood, owned/not owned, part of a series/not part of a series, etc. Goodreads is a million times worse than StoryGraph with all these things. However, I continue to use Goodreads and update it regularly strictly because it’s (regrettably) the more widely used platform. I use it to read reviews and check ratings for new books I want to buy, as well as to keep up with what friends are reading. I wish the entire reading community as a whole would agree to just stop using Goodreads and transition over to StoryGraph instead. Or, at the very least, I am BEGGING them to update the Goodreads interface. I mean, it’s freakin owned by Amazon! You can’t tell me they don’t have the resources to hire a UX developer!!!

Sadly i've given up hope on Amazon caring for Goodreads anymore :/ It's really a shame that the community is having such a bad time because of them!! But in my dreams, one day (soon) we'll all take off to Storygraph and be FREEEEE!

Thanks Rose. I actually enjoyed your metaphors, but even more, getting to understand these two platforms better.

A thousand times yes! I love the StoryGraph! The stats are also so much more in depth. (In addition to all the pros you’ve listed here) Happy to find another excited user in the wild.
